Since 2001 the Sangkheum Center for Children ('sangkheum' means 'hope' in the Khmer language) has been providing education, training, scholastic support and care to disadvantaged children and youth in Cambodia. We strive to provide a brighter future for orphaned, abused and neglected children who would otherwise be at risk of turning to a life on the streets.
Happy International Children’s Day!
On the 1st of June 2010, Sangkheum Center for Children has celebrated International Children’s Day with 700 kids participated. The meaning of this day was to make them awareness about Child Rights Freedom from discrimination, Child Abuse, Child Labor and self expression through role play and fun games.
Bicycles bringing hope to the Children!
Thanks to Hotel De La Paix and Mastercard, who have together donated 50 bicycles, this was the second time that we have involved in the Bike project of Mastercard and Hotel De la Paix.
Workshop Awareness about Road Traffic to a Young Generation!
Road traffic accidents are increase every year in Cambodia and can be considered as a new humanitarian tragedy for the country. Due to this reason, on the 15th of May 2010, The Sangkheum Center has co-operated with Siem Reap Provincial Department of Police Traffic, conducted the workshop awareness to the young adults reside in the Center and also to the young adults from Green Gecko Street Kids Center, Anjali House and Salarien Campuchea. They all benefited a lot from the workshop and we hope they know how to behave well and protect themselves to reduce the number of Traffic Accident in Cambodia.
HAPPY KHMER NEW YEAR !!
In April Cambodian people celebrated a Khmer New Year lasts for three days beginning on New Year's Day, most commonly April 13th but sometimes on the 14th in keeping with the lunar calendar. Khmer living in other countries may change the dates so as to celebrate on the weekend. This time of the year is at the end of the harvesting season. The farmers enjoy the fruits of their harvest and relax before the rainy season begins.
Sangkheum FC Under 14’s Winners 2010

On Sunday the 28th March 2010, Sangkheum FC boys team Under 14’s won the Globalteer Junior Soccer Leaque Siem Reap. The soccer Leaque was set up in January and since the beginning the boy’s team won all of their matches. In the final game against the team of “Green Geko” they won 5:1 last Sunday.

Congratulation!! Football Tournament in Phnom Penh
On the 13th and 20th of March Sangkheum Center for Children took part on a football tournament in Phnom Penh which invited by the Indochina Starfish Foundation http://www.indochinastarfish.org. Boys and girls from different organizations in Phnom Penh play football against each other. The Sangkheum FC played against several teams’ with different ages 15 girls under 16 years and 15 boys under 13 years. The children enjoyed the full day playing football, cheering and supporting each other from the sidelines. The boy’s team won most of the games and has got the prize for number 3 out of 23 teams. The children were exhausted and atmosphere was very joyful.
